For many, seeking the dental care they need is challenging due to a fear of the dentist or dental anxiety. At the Maryland Center for Complete Dentistry in Owings Mills, Dr. Silverman offers sedation dentistry options that can enable you to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile without pain or stress.
The Importance of A Healthy Smile
We cannot overrate the importance of keeping your teeth and gums healthy. They play a very important role in many aspects of your physical well being and daily quality of life. Studies consistently show how the mouth-body connection influences the development or severity of many health issues, including systemic and cardiovascular disease.
Sedation dentistry can allow Dr. Silverman to perform one or more dental procedures to maintain, restore or enhance your smile while you are completely relaxed and stress free. Our Owings Mills dentist office is designed to help you feel welcome and comfortable and our dedicated and highly trained staff will work with you on an individual basis to meet your needs and address your anxiety.
Dr. Silverman will meet with you to evaluate your medical history, oral health and concerns before recommending the appropriate type of dental sedation. This is to ensure your comfort and your safety while sedated.
Sedation Dentistry: What Are The Options?
For patients who desire more than a local anesthetic, Dr. Silverman offers sedation options that enable you to be alert and responsive, but pain free with little or no memory after your visit.
- Oral sedation: administered as a pill, oral conscious sedation may begin with an at home dose to calm you before your visit. This type of sedation takes time to become effective and to wear off and will require you to have an escort to and from your dental appointment.
- Nitrous oxide: also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small cannula placed beneath the nose. Nitrous oxide takes effect immediately and wears off just as quickly, making it possible for you to drive yourself to and from your appointment and resume your routine shortly after your procedure in most cases.
