Dental Anxiety Treatment in Owings Mills, MD

Have you been avoiding the dentist chair out of fear and anxiety?

Dental anxiety affects millions of people and remains a leading cause of poor oral health in adults. A lack of routine dental care significantly raises your risk for tooth decay, gum disease and the damage that can be caused by untreated complex dental problems. At the Maryland Center for Complete Dentistry in Owings Mills, MD, Dr. Jonathan Silverman offers sedation options to enable you to receive the dental care you need while feeling relaxed and pain free. As a team, we work with patients on an individual basis to identify your fear, address your anxiety and help you achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.

Solutions for Dental Anxiety

Maintaining your dental health not only benefits your smile- it plays an important role in your overall physical well being and long term health. Poor oral health has been scientifically linked to an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, hypertension and systemic diseases such as diabetes. For patients already suffering with certain diseases, poor oral health can make them more difficult to manage and exacerbate symptoms. If you have been avoiding the dentist out of fear, a previous bad experience or anxiety related to dental and medical settings we have solutions.

Dr. Silverman offers two options for conscious sedation in our Baltimore dentist office. He will meet with you to discuss your medical history, concerns and dental health needs before recommending the option(s) most suitable for you. Conscious sedation enables you to be alert, responsive and in control of your bodily functions while in a calm and relaxed state. Most patients have little or no memory of their treatment afterwards.
  • Oral conscious sedation: oral sedation is administered in pill form and will require you to have an escort to and from your appointment. In some cases, an at home dose is prescribed to speed the process and ensure you are completely relaxed. It will take several hours for this medication to completely wear off.
  • Nitrous oxide: also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is an inhaled sedation that takes effect and wears off immediately. A small cannula placed beneath the nose will deliver the odorless, tasteless gas for a calm, relaxing procedure experience.
